Must Have Paper Trimmer

I list a paper trimmer first because no matter what method you prefer a paper trimmer is necessary even with a cutting machine (It is a real hassle to take out a machine for a few straight cuts.) Many times stickers are straight lines that can be super easily cut with a paper cutter especially if you are using Travelers Notebooks, tags,  or planner boxes.

I use the Swingline  and leave it out when I do a lot of cutting then store it away (it is heavy and bulky) and use my Fiskars to grab for quick use.

There are cheaper paper cutters (Dollar Stores) with lousy blades and cutting mats so go with a brand name.

Craft Scissors

I admit I did not like scissor cutting when using regular paper scissors but when I got the EK Craft Scissors it was a game changer. They have a non stick finish and cut like butter.

EK also make Cutter Bee Scissors in the video above but the EK Craft Scissors are just as good in my opinion.

You can learn to enjoy cutting with scissors--if you have the right scissors --it can be a relaxing pastime. Cut while watching a movie or talking on the phone. I hand quilt so I'm used to having my hands busy.

I dreamed of getting a cutting machine but it was outside my craft budget for several years. These EK Scissors got me through and many time I prefer to cut with scissors and a paper trimmer instead of setting u my cutting machine.  They are precision tip scissors for detailed cutting on paper, vellum, photos and more.

Tip: Never buy Dollar Store Scissors.

Gryo Cuter

The Gyro Cut is a hand tool for cutting stickers. It takes practice. You need to be patient with your self and not expect it to be easy the first time.

But once you cut a few stickers it gets much easier. This  and a paper trimmer are the prefer method for many.

Exacto Knife

Some people do great with Exacto Knives. They are good for quick or exact cuts.

I'm not the person to ask about these, I won't let them in the house. I'm a klutz so I am not a fan. I still have scars from making lambs for Sunday school 10 years ago.

But many people like Exacto Knifes so ask on in the Facebook Group if you want to know more. The one I listed here is Amazon's Choice.

My Take on 3 Cutting Machines

Yes, there is a machine that will cut your stickers! I have three of them:

Brother N Scan Cut

Brother Scan N Cut 2 is my favorite and the only one I use.  It is the only machine that scans.  It comes with a full starter kit and works with and without a computer.  It comes with plenty of tools and extra accessories, such as a pen set to replace the cutting blade for drawing, multiple digital patterns, and an idea book.

There are three steps to use with my PDFs after you print them on your your computer:

  • 1. Scan the PDF
  • 2. Edit with the touch screen
  • 3. Put PDF back though and it cuts-- TaDa Kiss cut Stickers!

Silhouette Cameo

Silhouette Cameo: The Silhouette CAMEO® is a standard in electronic cutting. Like a home printer, it plugs into your PC or Mac® with a USB cable it is Bluetooth and wireless. Instead of printing it uses a small blade to cut paper, cardstock, vinyl, fabric, and other material up to 12 inches wide and 10 feet long. No expensive cartridges to buy.

It has a huge learning curve and I use a lot of technical  machines so I was really surprise how hard this was. You download the software to your computer and use it to tell the machine what to cut. I find it extremely frustrating. Watch a few of the how to use videos on Youtube and you'll see how complicated it is to cut out a few stickers.

Cricut Explore Air

The difference between the Cricut Explore and the Cricut Explore Air is the built-in wireless capabilities. The Cricut Explore does have Bluetooth capabilities, but an adapter must be purchased separately.

I never did learn to use my Cricut. I read a lot of post that say it cuts better than the Silhouette--but if if can't figure out how to use it, it doesn't really matter how well it cuts.

I got so frustrated and packed it back in the box. If I am missing something wonderful let me know in the comments.

Cricut Maker

The newest Cricut Maker is quieter than the air and better with fabric.  You can use your own designs. You can always upload and use your own images and fonts for free, in a variety of standard file formats.

A lot of the ladies on sewing groups rave about this especially with felt. For those who wish to cut really thick material, the Knife Blade can slice through material of up to 2.4mm thick (thats almost a full inch!). The cutting area is 12″ x 24″.

I have an Electric  Accuquilt Go I got when I tore the rotator cuff in my shoulder. I use it to cut quilt pieces and I'm happy with it but the dies are terribly expensive!
